It’s God’s desire for you to live a righteous life and only through His grace that we can attain it. Psalm 1 gives us some guidelines on reaping the rewards of the righteous one. How great it is to be blessed, when we have nothing to do with the ungodly. You do not walk in, nor live in the counsel of the ungodly and nor stand in the path or even sit down in the company of the mockers. The amplified specifically breaks the word blessed for a better understanding as to be happy, fortunate, prosperous and enviable.
Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather. There is no one besides Jesus Christ who is pure and holy . “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool Isaiah 1:18. We are like filthy rags in His presence.
How do you maintain living a righteous life?
The only way to maintain righteousness is through Christ our saviour for He is the way, the truth and the life. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing John 15:5. Learn to love one another for Christ is love and know Him in spirit and truth (1 John 4:7-9, John 15:7,9,10). Set and maintain godly standards that requires renewing your mind to the things of God, meditating on the word and dwelling in His presence (Romans 12:2, Psalm 1:2). He words becomes part of you, it remains in you and is like a planted seed that grows and yields fruit. You need to hear from God for directions and wisdom. What are the blessings that comes with living a righteous life?
Because we are God’s children you have a covenant with Him. His promises can never be broken, neither will He change His mind nor lie. God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? Numbers 23:19. Once He has made a promise it will definitely come to pass. I will be focussing on three key points in Psalm 1:3,6.
He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper Psalm 1:3.
For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish Psalm 1:6
- Fruitfulness: It does not matter what you are going through, He will always be your source of provision. It does not matter what the economy says whether recession or double deep recession, rain or shine, winter or summer, you shall always bear fruit in and out of season. Because you remained in Him and obeyed His voice, you are blessed in the city, nation and whatever you lay your hands will prosper.
- Satisfaction: Your soul will continually be satisfied because the Lord will keep you permanently at a place of rest and resfreshness (Psalm 63:5). The joy of the Lord will always be your strength and you will experience perfect peace that surpasses all understanding. Even in the midst of the storm or when you are left with nothing, your mouth will still praise God. Your lips will be filled with words of expressing His love, gratefulness and thanksgiving. When it seems like nothing is happening, your trust and dependence will be from Him and your spirit being will be stirred up to worship Him. He will always make you lie down in green pastures and His rivers of water will fill your thirsty spirit, body and soul. The satisfaction comes from within your inner man.
- Guidance He will always watch over you, in your sleep, when you wake up, your going out and your coming in. He promises never to leave you nor forsake you and He will lead you in the path of righteous (Psalm 23:3). He will guide every decision you make. He gives us wisdom to make the right decision and knowledge for better understanding. It is a blessing to know that our God is there for us in times of troubles, needs, trials and tribulations.
