After so much hesitation and deliberation, I have finally decided to take my practical driving test.  It has been a journey that started last year taking  driving  lessons and I am gradually growing in confidence driving independently. During my driving lessons while taking instructions from my instructor, I remembered my Heavenly Father and how He gives me instructions and directions to guide me towards the right path.  He Leads me in the path of righteousness as I walk in obedience listening to His instructions and corrections (Psalm 23:3).

The  journey so far has been quite challenging, sometimes I have asked myself if I really wanted to continue with the lessons especially when the public transport in London  runs an efficient and reliable service.  What encourages me to keep pressing on  in spite of it all is that the benefits outweighs the costs.  So I have set my mind on one thing and that is to pass my driving test.     The Lord reminded me of how He leads me along the  long narrow road and to trust Him in spite of it all.    I have made little mistakes here and there but thank God my driving instructor is there to correct me and guide me towards achieving my goal.  Here  are four key mistakes I made during my driving lessons and how it applied to my daily walk with the Lord:

  1. Not listening to instructions: When I started my driving lessons I found it difficult to listen to my driving instructor because I preferred to be in control of situations and  trusting his judgements was a big issue too.  In my relationship with the Lord, I realised that I needed the Lord to direct my path, every step of the way even when I did not understand the whys, what and when  but to trust Him in all that I do.  Trusting God requires listening to His instructions and being obedient to His voice.  Trust God from the bottom of your heart;  don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He’s the one who will keep you on track. Proverbs 3:5-6 The Message.
  2. Not applying the right instructions: In this case, I listened to his instructions but still ended up doing my own thing, in other words I applied my  way of dealing with situation during my driving lessons.  During that period my instructor got really cross with me and re-emphasised that he would prefer if I did it his way and not my way.  I reflected on the number of times I made mistakes in my walk with the Lord, working it out in my own way and not His ways because I limited myself in the great things He had in store for me.  That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard,  and no mind has imagined what God has prepared  for those who love Him.”  1 Corinthians 2:9 NLT.
  3. Fear of the unknown: This has been a tough one for me because taking driving lessons means stepping out of my comfort zone, the older you become the more challenging it is.  When I drive along the road with my instructor being unaware of the events that occur or challenges I would face during my lessons scares me to bits.  When the Lord called me to step out of my comfort zone, I ran to a hiding place but He found me.  I have learnt to keep my eyes fixed on Him and not on the situation, trusting God to see me through.  He promises never to leave me nor forsake me
  4. Scared of large vehicles: This happens mainly during the peak hours when the road is busy and trucks passes by or there is a truck right behind me. My confidence goes down and the fear of the unknown creeps in. The Lord thought me to be confident of who I am in Him and He has not given me the spirit of fear but love because perfect love casts out all fear (Romans 8:14-16, 2 Timothy 1:7, Numbers 13:30-33).
One thing I know is to keep pressing on to what lies ahead and not to give up on God.   Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus Philippians 3:12-14 NKJV.  There is a reward for those that persevere in the midst of it all.

Comment briefly on what challenges you have faced in life, how the Lord lead you out  of it  and  the outcome.

Building trust is essential in every relationship especially marriages.  You might have been hurt in the past and such relationships might have failed you several times that you held back to avoid anymore triggers.  Trust is a key part in every relationship, your employers must trust you to employ you or  your must show some reasonable position of reliability to be employable.  Friendships require trust to build healthy relationships.  Sometimes you trust someone then they stab you in the back consequently  anger, disappointments and so on creeps in gradually.  When this happens run to God and take refuge in Him.  You know what, your sole trust should be in God.  He is perfect and complete, there are no flaws in Him.  On the other side human beings are imperfect with their weaknesses and flaws.  Your refuge or place of safety should be in the Lord.  Trust God more than man and He will never forsake or fail you.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans Psalm 118:8 NIV.

To trust God means to having complete dependence, reliance and support in Him.  It is your ability to cling to, lean on at all times and have total confidence in Him that He will see you through every problems or challenges you experience.  Trusting God to me means my wholes being (spirit, body and soul) clings to Him, even when I don’t understand what’s going on, I still lean on His own understanding and permit Him to direct my path.

My trust is fastened to God as I lift my life to Him.  And I am certain I will not be put to shame because I trust in You.  O Lord, I give my life to you.      I trust in you, my God! Do not let me be disgraced,   or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat Psalm 25:1-2.   As I let go, He takes control.  Though it may seem like I am forgotten, though it may look like I have been left behind in this race, I know certainly that He never forgets those who put their trust in Him and keeps me in perfect peace because my eyes are fixed on Him (Nahum 1:7, Isaiah 26:3-4)

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are fixed on You! 4 Trust in the Lord always,
for the Lord God is the eternal Rock Isaiah 26:3-4 NLT.

Father I thank You for today and what You have done in the past.  I pray for those who are loosing faith and trust in God at this hour, time and season that You would strengthen and give them perfect peace that surpasses all understanding.  Their eyes would be fixed on You and You alone, I pray oh Lord that they will shift their focus from the situation and trust You more because with You all things are possible.  I declare that with You all things are possible so Lord have Your way in their lives and take control in Jesus name.  Heal their hearts of every pains, bitterness and unforgiveness that they have experienced as a result of broken relationships.  You heal the broken hearted and set the captives free so where the spirit of the Lord is there is Liberty.  I declare liberty in every area of their lives and fulfillment of Your will and purpose that whatever they have asked You in Your name according to Your will they will receive it in JESUS MIGHTY NAME I PRAY and everyone says AMEN.

Waiting on God can be so be so challenging especially when you have been seeking Him for an answered prayer in a very long time.  You might be at a point of waiting on God and you have waited in high expectations, waited in anticipation but it seems like the waiting period is in vain and your high expectations are turned to disappointments.

You must have prayed consistently, fervently over a period of time and you feel like God has turned deaf ears to your prayers.  You pay your tithe, you serve in the house of God, you are a cheerful giver, you are God’s obedient servant and friend so what holding Him back from granting your hearts desires.  It has gotten to the point of giving up, frustration and all hopes is lost.

God’s appointed time is different from ours but most assuredly He always turns up on time.  Has God ever failed or forsaken you?  We are His little children and He has promised never to leave us nor forsake us.  He is always right on time but the issues  we experience are the pains and process of waiting on God.

You might have mapped out your life in such a structured organised way without consulting the most High God but it seems it’s not working out as you planned it.  No eyes has seen, no ear has heard what God has in store for those that love Him, only if He reveals to us through His spirit   1 Corinthians 2:9-11.  He is always far ahead of us making the path smooth.  So don’t get upset when your plans does not work out as planned.

“And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You. Psalm 39:7 NKJV

What do you wait for?  Are you limiting yourself because you cant see or hear or don’t  know what He  has in store for you?  At some point in my life, I have asked  myself the same question of what exactly I am waiting for.  In desperation we settle for less when God desires for us so much more than we could ever imagine.  In some instances I have settled for less due to my weaknesses of self control and  patience.

Moreover compared myself with my mates who have what I have been waiting for and tried to force the hands of God.  During this period, I realised that He is pruning me to bring out the best in me in times of trials, teaching me how to be more patient and self controlling (Romans 5:3-5, John 15:1-5).

One thing I have learnt is not to compare myself with others, because I am uniquely created in God’s image so His plans and ways for me is different from my counterparts.   Wait on God, wait in high expectations, wait with the right heart and mind, wait and trust in God.  Do not limit God because He is a God of more than enough.  He hands are not too short that He cant reach out to you.  Ask Him in faith, specifically what you want or desire and believe that He has done it 1 John 5:14.

The process of asking from God your desires, expectation and receiving it can be a very long tiring one.  Therefore always be full of joy, meditating on the word of God.

Commit everything you do to the Lord.  Trust him, and he will help you. 6 He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.  7 Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act.  Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes Psalm 37:5-7 NLT.

Spend time dwelling  in His presence, seek Him in everything you do.  Wait patiently for God like a farmer waits for His crops to harvest.  Always pray with consistency and ask Him for wisdom and understanding in everything you do.

Dear brothers and sisters,[a] be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen. 8 You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near James 5:7-8 NLT.

It’s definitely not  easy waiting on God but when you wait with the right attitude of joy, praising Him at all times, renewing your mind on the word and things of God then He come through for you in such a beautiful and marvelous way that your friends and loved ones will be amazed at His wonderful acts.  There is a reward for those that wait on the Lord so expect your divine visitation from God.  Those that wait patiently and hope in the Lord shall inherit the earth  (Psalm 37:9 amp).

Step up

By Ngozi Ngadi

God’s desire for you is that His purpose be fulfilled in your lives. He has given you dominion over the earth to be fruitful and multiply.  He has given you authority to rule over nations, to possess the land for Christ that His glory will fill the earth.  Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:28 NKJV

It is time to step up in the assignments He has called you to complete. Many are called but few are chosen, He has chosen you specifically for His works not because of your perfection or righteousness. You must not be perfect to be accepted , God wants you to come just as you are then He will work your lives out as you walk with Him every step of way.

It is time to step up, it is time to increase the tempo and there is no time to waste.  We are limited to time because we work under a 365days calender a year (chronos).  But the Lord is not restricted to time because He has time in His hands.  For you, a thousand years are as a passing day, as brief as a few night hours Psalm 90:4 NLT.  It time to understand the season you are in and flow in it because it is only for an opportune moment.  Which season are you in? Are you in a season of sowing or reaping, season of planting or growth? Ecclesiastes 3 states there’s an opportune time for everything under the earth and  He has made everything beautiful in its time.

The Lord is doing a new thing in your life, embrace the new (Isaiah 43:18-19).   The old is past and the new is here, embrace the new.  It is time to get rid of the old and move up the ladder.  Step up the ladder, forgetting what lies behind and keep  pressing forward to what lies ahead.

The Lord uses the foolish things of this world and makes them wise, all you need to do is make yourself available for the Lord to use you  (1 Corinthians 1:27).  Sometimes the Lord stretches us so much that we feel like breaking but He knows how much we can bear. He knows our limit and  would not allow us to be tempted beyond our limit.  No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it  1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV.

Stepping out of my comfort zone and embracing the new was a great challenge for me because I could not comprehend how He could use a broken, rejected and crushed lady like me.  When I said YES, I am available, use me Lord then He turned my life completely around for the best.  Every step I take up the ladder, my fears of the unknown tries to creep in but I fix my eyes on the Lord and surround myself with friends that lift me up instead of putting me down.  In my weaknesses I keep pressing on,  when I am down I go the Rock of my salvation who is able to carry me through.  It’s not easy I must say but one thing I know is He will never leave nor forsake me.

When the Lord breaks you, He remould’s you back to the way He wants you to be. There are challenges in life when God had broken, crushed me to pieces that I felt hopeless and  became a stumbling block.  I felt oh broken me, can I be remolded?

When I lost my dad was one of those moments because He died without me having a chance to say good bye and that was really painful. Also when I was homeless, unemployed and had no where to run to for help, this was frustrating for me but thank God I have come this far moreover going further. These are a few of those times

But the jar he was making did not turn out as he had hoped, so he crushed it into a lump of clay again and started over, Jeremiah 18:4 NLT.

When life’s issues, pains, hurts, disappointments, despair, feeling unloved and all the rest breaks your heart and bones in pieces and leaves you crushed and shattered. The Lord seems so far but He is near. Because He said He will never leave you nor forsake you. He is there to carry your burdens and make it lighter for His yoke is easy. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed Psalm 34:18 NLT  At those point in my life, I did not have a deep relationship with God but now when I pass through challenges it draws me nearer to Him.  I spend more time in His presence and remind myself that the devil meant it for evil but God meant it for good, Genesis 50:20.  My joy remains in Him and not the situation and my eyes becomes so fixed on Him to trust Him and believe that He would make a way where there seemed to be no way.

He brings healing to the broken hearted, it does not matter what you are going through. Allow God to work through you. He knows the end of the matter, even though it might look so disappointing, useless, or fruitless now, God has a greater plan and purpose. All the broken crushed pieces in your life, The Lord is moulding you, removing the bad, rotten and decayed parts, keeps remoulding to bring out the best in you.  He is our potter and we are His clay.  But now, O LORD,   You are our Father;  We are the clay, and You our potter;  And all we are the work of Your hand, Isaiah 64:8 NKJV.   It is not for you to understand how our creator executes the works in your life but trusting in Him, leaning not on your own understanding and allow The Lord to direct your path.

Sometimes He has to stretch you so much that  you feel like breaking, He knows your limits and how much you can bear.  If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. 13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure 1 Corinthians  10:12-13 NLT.

The Lord did some work in me and through me, removing the stones, clutters and dirts and still continues because I have not arrived at perfection.  He has healed me and made me whole.   He healed my broken heart and gave me hope for tomorrow.  I would like to briefly share with you some of the steps I took to receive my healing:

  1. Let it go: Surrender all your burdens, emotions, past, bitterness, unforgiveness and problems to God and He will deal with it.  So it is no longer in your hands.  Shake it off.  Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you; He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail) Psalm 55:22 Amp.
  2. Permit Him: Allow Him to mend the broken heart because He is your potter and we are the clay, Isaiah 64:8.
  3. Believe : Believe that He can heal you completely because Jesus paid it all on the cross so there is no cause to suffer.  He has redeemed us from all our sins, for more on Christ our redeemer.
  4. Work and Walk with Him:  It is a step by step process and a journey to receiving your complete healing.  It requires an agreement between you and God that He would work it out.  Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30 The Message
