Prayer is the vital key product every christian needs to develop a deeper walk with the Lord. Prayer connects you our Father in heaven.  When you pray wholeheartedly, seeking His face He would surely answer you. Knowing how to pray effectively keeps you in alignment with His plans and helps achieve effective results.

Before you present your case before God if you have any grievances, grudges against anyone endeavour to resolve the matter first.  If anyone has offended you or otherwise, ask for forgiveness and try to make peace/amends with them.

Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.  25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.” Mark 11:24-26

So how do you pray effectively?  Elijah knew how to pray effectively that produced effective results.  Elijah had an intimate relationship with the Lord and he was a man who understood how to utilize his authority to command things into being.  Every time he sought the Lord He prayed earnestly until he received an answer.  When he spoke, it was in authority causing an enforcement to manifest on earth as it in heaven.  Elijah made a decree that there would be no rain at his word there was no rain.

And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.”  1 Kings 17:1

Then in the third year, Elijah went up to the top of the mountain to diligently seek the Lord in prayer, positioning himself in a prayer posture that caused him to connect with the Lord and humbled himself in the presence of God presenting his request before the Most High God (1 Kings 18:42).

Each time Elijah went to check if the rain had come he found no sign.  He persisted persevering in prayers, seeking His face wholeheartedly for the floodgates of heaven to open and pour down showers of rain.  At the seventh time the Lord granted his request.

Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, “There is a cloud, as small as a man’s hand, rising out of the sea!” So he said, “Go up, say to Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.’”  45 Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel. 1 Kings 18:44-45

So what can we learn from Elijah the Prophet of God who knew how to pray effectively.  The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit James 5:16b- 18.

There are five key points to an effective prayer that makes things happen:

  1. Earnest prayer:  When you pray, pray to God in spirit and truth, wholeheartedly diligently seeking Him for an answer.  Colossians 4:2 states to continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it and with a heart of thanksgiving being grateful to God for what He has done.
  2. Fervent prayer:  There needs to be a undying passion to keep praying with all kinds of prayer and supplication in the spirit (Ephesians 6:18).  Increasing the intensity of seeking fervently no matter what even in the midst of the challenging situation.  It should not deter you from humbling yourself under the mighty hands of God that you may be lifted up in due time (1 Peter 5:6).
  3. Righteous life: The Lord hears the prayer of the righteous and He is far from the wicked (Proverbs 15:29).  The righteous shall never be moved or shaken so trust God to see you through the storms of life.  Elijah lived a righteous life in obedience to His words and instructions even when he did not understand the end of the matter
  4. Persistant and persevering prayer:  Don’t ever give up on God even when you cannot see the physical manifestation, keep pressing hard after Him, travailing in a place of prayer until you receive the productive results.  Elijah kept praying  constantly and consistently until he saw the sky become dark and cloudy and about to rain.
  5. Divine knowledge of walking in His authority: It is important to understand your position of authority as a royal priesthood, chosen generation  and special people consecrated to fulfill His purpose on earth as it is in heaven.  Elijah walked boldly in power and authority without any fear of man but God.  When you pray to God, proceed boldly before the throne of grace to obtain mercy at a time of need (Hebrews 4:16).

It is time to pray effectively to the Most High God, pray prayers that would produce fruits.  Trust Him at His word for He is a covenant keeping God and He would always fulfill all that He has promised you over your life.  Do not give up on God because He is faithful, loving and He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him.

When challenges tries to suppress you especially during the stormy rain or when everything around you is not going as planned, there is the tendency  for you doubt if God really exists, questions your faith and believe in God. Have you found yourself at a crossroad not knowing what to do, where to go and you are stuck in the same position because of your unbelief.

Usually Faith is not the issue but the ability to believe that God is able to do it.  The measure of faith does not matter as the word states that if you have faith as a mustard seed you can move mountain (Matthew 17:20).  It does not matter how small your faith is but a firm conviction in  your heart that He is capable of doing what He has promised.  The disciples could not cast the demon out of the boy because of their unbelief (Matthew 17:14-20)

UNDERSTANDING WHAT FAITH AND BELIEVE MEANS

Faith  is the substance of things hoped for, evidence of things not yet seen (Hebrews 11:1).   Faith is visualizing your expectations in the spirit realm and calling it forth into  physical manifestation.

Belief  is the firm, confident assurance and trust in someone or a system.   It can also be defined as the mental acceptance of a conviction in the truth, actuality or validity of something.  Believe  is the verbal term for belief and can be classified as an action word.

When doubts in God’s ability to do what He has  already promised creeps in, then it means your believe  in God is unstable.  A sudden question of  trust, complete dependence on God for support and confidence in Him creates a lingering effect on the ability to believe in God.

It is time to ask Him through the power of the Holy Spirit to help your unbelief.  Your heart’s cry to God should be “Lord help my unbelief ” just as the Father of the boy possessed by the demon asked the Lord in desperation to help his unbelief so that the boy will receive his complete healing (Mark 9:23-24).

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” Romans 10:10-11 NKJV

Believing in the Lord can  be developed through studying the word, spending time in His presence and  in communion with God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit .  Most of all praying  and fasting (Matthew 17:21).  Believe is the conviction of the heart to decree/declare and confess with your mouth that no matter what, in the midst of it all I believe that God is able to do just what He said He would do.  Therefore nothing whatsoever should separate you from the love of God, not life or death, not principalities or powers, not in good health or sickness, absolutely nothing shall separate from the love of God (Romans 8:37-39)

Forgive

Father in heaven, we thank You  for Your Son Jesus Christ who was crucified on the cross of Calvary.  We thank You for Your blood that washes away my  sins, purifies my heart and cleanses me from all unrighteousness.  I confess that I am sinner and have  sinned against You,  Father I humble myself before you and surrender my life, all that I am to You.  Forgive me of  all my sins, both the sins of commission and omission.  Teach me how to forgive those that have mocked, persecuted, humiliated and offended me consistently and that have caused me to shut down and placed a stumbling block to my relationship with You.  So that my prayers might be answered as the Word of God says if I have anything against anyone forgive, let go of the issue so that Your Father in Heaven may forgive you.  In Jesus Name Amen.

And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.” Mark 11:25-26 NKJV

A few months ago I wrote about entering into a place of rest and why it is so important to find rest in Him.  Also I  gave a brief description of  spiritual rest .  Today I will  be expanding further, digging in deeper on how to enter into a place of rest.  It is the Lord’s utmost desire that we find rest, peace and soundness of mind in Him.

Living a life of remaining in His rest in the midst of the ups and downs of life or challenges we experience is  all about taking our intimacy with the Lord to a deeper and higher  level.  It starts with the hunger and thirst of seeking Him more than ever, being fed with the bread of life and drinking from  the fountain of His living water.  I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me Proverbs 8:17 NKJV.   He longs for us to seek His face every minute and second of the day.

So how do you enter into a place of rest?  it starts by our Permitting  Him to come into our heart and take complete perfect control.  There needs to be a desire to submit and surrender our spirit, body and soul.  The Lord has given us the freedom of choice to accept Him or disconnect from God.  However because He is God, our creator He has the authority to gain access into our hearts without our consent in some exceptional cases in the Bible like Jonah and Saul who had divine encounters with the Lord so that His name be glorified.

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name Psalm 100:4 NKJV

Come into His presence with a thankful heart, praising Him for all He has done, is doing and about to do. It does not matter how painful, difficult, depressing, bitter and crushed you are.  Think about His love, mercies, faithfulness, mercies and grace.

Below are five ways to enter into His place of rest based on my experience.

  1. Be Still:  Requires that you clear your mind off every worries, stress, complaining over issues you have not control over.  Be Still and acknowledge God as the author and finisher of your faith. Psalm 46:10, 1 Kings 19:11-12
  2. Obedient to His Words: The Joshua Generation entered His rest because they were obedient to His instructions, promisess and His words did not depart from them.  They meditated on it day and night.  They followed His path and did not deviate to the left or right.  Joshua 1:7-9, Joshua 21:43-45
  3. Remain in Him: Remain in the Him no matter the cost.  Let nothing whatsoever  separate you from the love of God so that your joy will overflow.  This means you keeping your eyes fixed on Him and He will keep your in perfect peace. John 15:11, Isaiah 26:3
  4. His Grace: His grace is enough to see you through the turbulent times.  Walk with Him and He would work it out.  Take His yoke and He will give you complete rest.  Matthew 11:28-30, 2 Corinthians 12:8-10
  5. Faith and believe:  It is difficult to enter His rest if you do not believe that He is able to do more than you could ever ask or imagine.  We have a faithful God who has never failed us.  Therefore ask God through the power of the Holy Spirit to help your unbelief.  With God all things are possible.

May the good Lord strengthen, guide and  bring you to the place of complete rest in Him.  May He keep you there and you remain in His presence.  For in His is fullness of joy and perfect peace.  In Jesus Name.  Amen.

Lord Jesus, the lover of my soul, my strength and rock, give me the strength to keep standing.  Even in the midst of the storm, I shall not fall but You shall carry me on wings like eagles.  Teach me Your ways, my heart holds on to Your words oh Lord.  While I wait on You, I pray that you strengthen my weak bones and stir up my heart never to loose hope in You.  Because hope differed makes the heart sick but when desire comes it is a tree of life (Proverbs 13:12).  For You promised never to leave me nor forsake me and when I pass through the waters You shall be be with me and they shall not overflow me, when I walk through the fire, I shall not be burned.

I keep standing on Your word for it shall not return to You void.  I stand on Your rock for You are my firm foundation where I am solidly rooted in Your love.  I remain standing, abiding in Your love and Word that my joy will overflow.  I stand for I have firm confident assurance and know within my heart that You will never fail me.  Thank You Lord for answered prayers in Jesus Name Amen
