Prayer

Have you ever been helpless in life? Where it seems like all your dependable source of withdrawing strength and help has disappeared.  Well the good news is that you are not alone, I am helpless too.  Being helpless in the presence of God is a great place to be because you know that God is your Source and Helper.  To receive help from God you have to acknowledge in all honesty and transparency that you are helpless.  Therefore circumstances and situations would occur to test your ability to lean onto God the Author and Finisher of your faith

I will lift up my eyes to the hills from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth Psalm 122:1-2

Do not focus on your problems or dilemma but lift up your eyes and look up to God who will always make a way where there seems to be no way.  For every challenge there is an opportunity for God to manifest Himself beyond your expectations. Sometimes God would allow you to utilize all your opportunities to a point of helplessness so you can learn to trust and depend completely on Him.  Once again whether it is the marriage crises or problems at work. Maybe you are just about to be evicted or your property repossessed. Could it be that you are at the point of hopelessness the last but stop to aborting your dreams and ambitions?  Whatever it is God is always on time, He turns up at the right time so do not give up on God because He has not given up on you.

At every point of being helpless in His presence, I have learnt to cry out for help and acknowledge that I truly and desperately need God’s help.  In intercessory prayer and confessing God as my Helper, Source and Provider, He hears my cry and intervenes on my behalf for His namesake

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 NKJV

Waiting on God for your needs and desires of your heart to be met requires trusting God and depending completely on Him to renew your strength as you take those steps of faith with overflowing expectations.  If God handed power and control over to you for one second, He knows what you would do. This time, pass the control switch to God the Author and Finisher of your faith for Him to take total control.

Being helpless in His presence means crucifying your flesh, passions and desires to enter into a new level of relationship where you enquire of Him for the next step.  Do not try to figure it all out, communicate in dialogue with God on what to do next, how to overcome that situation that is weighing you down.  God loves you so much that He wants to know how you are feeling today as you let go from an open transparent heart.

PRAY FOR GRACE

Oh Lord my God, I ask for Your grace to do all that You have called me to do here on earth for my days are numbered.  I know by faith that I can do all things according to Your will through Christ Jesus, I am not afraid to step out in boldness and confidence of who I am in You.

You have enabled me to keep persevering through the ups and downs of life.  Now I can visualise the great and mighty things You have in store for me from Your perspective.  Open the eyes of my understanding and give me wisdom, knowledge and counsel to make the right decisions at the right time in the right place.

I know that nothing is too difficult for You and with You all things are possible.  Thank You God for it is not by my might or power but Your Spirit that is at work in me.   For this reason I can move from strength to strength and enforce your will here in my life as it has already been established in heaven.   You have given me authority to bind and loose, destroy and build, open and close, whatever I activate here on earth is established in the throne room of God.  I decree and declare let your will be done in my life and marriage oh God.   Your ways are higher than my ways and Your thoughts higher than mine, help me to find strength in You and You alone.  Let no other man, idol, living or dead creature take Your place in my heart .   In Jesus Name Amen

It is so challenging to keep persevering in a place of prayer especially when you cant physically see the results.  You pray morning, day and night, always in constant communion with Heavenly Father with the help of the Holy Spirit and it feels like your Lord God is not answering your petitions.  So where have you gone wrong? Is your heart right with God?  So how do you keep persevering in a place of prayer.

There is a parable Jesus told His disciples, the parable of the persistent widow to encourage us to keep persevering in a place of prayer (Luke 18:1-8).  This story stirs our heart that we ought to pray always and not to loose hope, faith or  give up.  In summary, the parable illustrates to us about a Judge and widow in a certain city.  The Judge had no fear or reverence for God and no respect or care for His people.

This widow persistently persevered in her demand for justice to protect and defend her against her adversary.  Her perseverance in pressurising the Judge caused him to change his decision.   Yet because this widow continues to bother me, I will defend and protect and avenge her, lest she give me intolerable annoyance and wear me out by her continual coming orat the last she come and rail on me or assault me or strangle me Luke 18:5 amp

How much more our Heavenly Father who loves us dearly would do for us?  He ways, plans and thoughts are above yours.  You are His chosen ones, God’s elect, He would surely defend, avenge and protect you when you cry out to Him in private.  You prayers to Him is not in vain, He hears and answers them all according to His will purpose and plan.

He is always on on time but His timing is different from yours.  He has a set appointed time for everything.   Everything He does is beautiful and marvellous in His sight.  He makes everything beautiful in its time (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

Prayer is the master key to your breakthrough.  Why don’t you start your day and end your day in prayer.  For there is power in the words that proceeds from your mouth, the power of life and death, to build and destroy, uproot and establish. I decree and declare that as you present your case to Father, as you petition heaven may He answer you speedily at the set appointed time.

It is important to have the right attitude and mindset, renewing your mind to what the Word says over the situation.  Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God.  Without faith it is impossible to please God.  As you approach the throne of grace and mercy have faith in God and believe without a doubt that He is able to do more than you can expect or imagine.

So if you have been praying for so long and it seems like He is not hearing or answering your prayers, I would encourage you to discover more of who He is.  He is the King of kings, Lord of Lords, Alpha and Omega, the Author and Finisher of your faith.  When you have a divine knowledge of who He is and who you are in Christ, you would approach Him as His Son or Daughter who has an inheritance in His kingdom then whatsoever you ask in His name and He will answer and act on your behalf (John 14:13-14)

When we pray in communion with the Lord, our utmost desire is that our Heavenly Father hears our prayer. It is essential to understand how to gain access into His presence so that our prayers are not futile. The key to the secret place is the key that The Lord has placed in or given to us  to enable us gain direct access into His presence.

It is important to spend personal quality time with the Lord to develop our intimacy with Him and help us to grow in our relationship with our Heaven Father.    The secret place is a place where you are in communion with the Lord one to one, spirit to spirit and heart to heart.  The key to the secret place draws us into His presence (Psalm 91:1).

But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly Matthew 6:6.   Intimacy with the Lord is developed in His presence where your joy is complete and you live life in abundance.

What hinders you from entering the secret place?

Grudges

Keeping malice and grudges against people especially your brothers and sisters in Christ displeases the Lord.  The Word of God encourages us to love our brothers and sisters because we love God and God is love (1 John 4:8).   Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:31-32.  Learn to let it go and lay it all down at the foot of the cross.  Your utmost desire is to enter into the presence of the Lord, therefore nothing shall separate you from the love of God

Bitterness

Bitterness is an emotional reaction caused as consequences of anger, pains, hurts, offense and so on.  When you allow your emotional feelings to take control,  the Holy Spirit departs from you and this blocks your access into the secret place.  You need to guard your heart with the shield of faith against every fiery darts of the enemy and put on the full armour of Christ our saviour.

Offense

When someone speaks wrongly of you or acts in a way that offends you.  Think about the cross and Jesus act of sacrifice that He has already paid it all.  Therefore you choose not to be offended by any words or action that would try to disconnect you from the presence of God.  It is a choice you have to make.   If anyone offends you do not hesitate to forgive them.  As you forgive our Father in heaven will forgive you through the power of the blood of Jesus (Matthew 6:12, Colossians 1:14, 2:13, Ephesians 1:7). Your prayers and entering into His presence could be hindered by unforgiving spirit, grudges that are led by the sinful nature or flesh.

An unforgiving spirit is of the flesh that leads to death for to be carnally minded is death. When you forgive others our Father in heaven forgives you  otherwise your prayers are hindered (Matthew 6:14).  When someone offends you, it is necessary to go back and make peace with the person so that your communion to the Lord would be like a sweet fragrance to the Lord.  The Lord Jesus encourages us to forgive as many times, not keeping records of the past sins but letting it go (Matthew 18:15-16, 21-22)

Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God Galatians 5:19-21.

Next week I would expand even further on what opens, unlocks or activates a complete direct access to the secret place.

Prayer is the vital key product every christian needs to develop a deeper walk with the Lord. Prayer connects you our Father in heaven.  When you pray wholeheartedly, seeking His face He would surely answer you. Knowing how to pray effectively keeps you in alignment with His plans and helps achieve effective results.

Before you present your case before God if you have any grievances, grudges against anyone endeavour to resolve the matter first.  If anyone has offended you or otherwise, ask for forgiveness and try to make peace/amends with them.

Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.  25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.” Mark 11:24-26

So how do you pray effectively?  Elijah knew how to pray effectively that produced effective results.  Elijah had an intimate relationship with the Lord and he was a man who understood how to utilize his authority to command things into being.  Every time he sought the Lord He prayed earnestly until he received an answer.  When he spoke, it was in authority causing an enforcement to manifest on earth as it in heaven.  Elijah made a decree that there would be no rain at his word there was no rain.

And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.”  1 Kings 17:1

Then in the third year, Elijah went up to the top of the mountain to diligently seek the Lord in prayer, positioning himself in a prayer posture that caused him to connect with the Lord and humbled himself in the presence of God presenting his request before the Most High God (1 Kings 18:42).

Each time Elijah went to check if the rain had come he found no sign.  He persisted persevering in prayers, seeking His face wholeheartedly for the floodgates of heaven to open and pour down showers of rain.  At the seventh time the Lord granted his request.

Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, “There is a cloud, as small as a man’s hand, rising out of the sea!” So he said, “Go up, say to Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.’”  45 Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel. 1 Kings 18:44-45

So what can we learn from Elijah the Prophet of God who knew how to pray effectively.  The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit James 5:16b- 18.

There are five key points to an effective prayer that makes things happen:

  1. Earnest prayer:  When you pray, pray to God in spirit and truth, wholeheartedly diligently seeking Him for an answer.  Colossians 4:2 states to continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it and with a heart of thanksgiving being grateful to God for what He has done.
  2. Fervent prayer:  There needs to be a undying passion to keep praying with all kinds of prayer and supplication in the spirit (Ephesians 6:18).  Increasing the intensity of seeking fervently no matter what even in the midst of the challenging situation.  It should not deter you from humbling yourself under the mighty hands of God that you may be lifted up in due time (1 Peter 5:6).
  3. Righteous life: The Lord hears the prayer of the righteous and He is far from the wicked (Proverbs 15:29).  The righteous shall never be moved or shaken so trust God to see you through the storms of life.  Elijah lived a righteous life in obedience to His words and instructions even when he did not understand the end of the matter
  4. Persistant and persevering prayer:  Don’t ever give up on God even when you cannot see the physical manifestation, keep pressing hard after Him, travailing in a place of prayer until you receive the productive results.  Elijah kept praying  constantly and consistently until he saw the sky become dark and cloudy and about to rain.
  5. Divine knowledge of walking in His authority: It is important to understand your position of authority as a royal priesthood, chosen generation  and special people consecrated to fulfill His purpose on earth as it is in heaven.  Elijah walked boldly in power and authority without any fear of man but God.  When you pray to God, proceed boldly before the throne of grace to obtain mercy at a time of need (Hebrews 4:16).

It is time to pray effectively to the Most High God, pray prayers that would produce fruits.  Trust Him at His word for He is a covenant keeping God and He would always fulfill all that He has promised you over your life.  Do not give up on God because He is faithful, loving and He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him.
