Intimacy

A few months ago I wrote about entering into a place of rest and why it is so important to find rest in Him.  Also I  gave a brief description of  spiritual rest .  Today I will  be expanding further, digging in deeper on how to enter into a place of rest.  It is the Lord’s utmost desire that we find rest, peace and soundness of mind in Him.

Living a life of remaining in His rest in the midst of the ups and downs of life or challenges we experience is  all about taking our intimacy with the Lord to a deeper and higher  level.  It starts with the hunger and thirst of seeking Him more than ever, being fed with the bread of life and drinking from  the fountain of His living water.  I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me Proverbs 8:17 NKJV.   He longs for us to seek His face every minute and second of the day.

So how do you enter into a place of rest?  it starts by our Permitting  Him to come into our heart and take complete perfect control.  There needs to be a desire to submit and surrender our spirit, body and soul.  The Lord has given us the freedom of choice to accept Him or disconnect from God.  However because He is God, our creator He has the authority to gain access into our hearts without our consent in some exceptional cases in the Bible like Jonah and Saul who had divine encounters with the Lord so that His name be glorified.

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name Psalm 100:4 NKJV

Come into His presence with a thankful heart, praising Him for all He has done, is doing and about to do. It does not matter how painful, difficult, depressing, bitter and crushed you are.  Think about His love, mercies, faithfulness, mercies and grace.

Below are five ways to enter into His place of rest based on my experience.

  1. Be Still:  Requires that you clear your mind off every worries, stress, complaining over issues you have not control over.  Be Still and acknowledge God as the author and finisher of your faith. Psalm 46:10, 1 Kings 19:11-12
  2. Obedient to His Words: The Joshua Generation entered His rest because they were obedient to His instructions, promisess and His words did not depart from them.  They meditated on it day and night.  They followed His path and did not deviate to the left or right.  Joshua 1:7-9, Joshua 21:43-45
  3. Remain in Him: Remain in the Him no matter the cost.  Let nothing whatsoever  separate you from the love of God so that your joy will overflow.  This means you keeping your eyes fixed on Him and He will keep your in perfect peace. John 15:11, Isaiah 26:3
  4. His Grace: His grace is enough to see you through the turbulent times.  Walk with Him and He would work it out.  Take His yoke and He will give you complete rest.  Matthew 11:28-30, 2 Corinthians 12:8-10
  5. Faith and believe:  It is difficult to enter His rest if you do not believe that He is able to do more than you could ever ask or imagine.  We have a faithful God who has never failed us.  Therefore ask God through the power of the Holy Spirit to help your unbelief.  With God all things are possible.

May the good Lord strengthen, guide and  bring you to the place of complete rest in Him.  May He keep you there and you remain in His presence.  For in His is fullness of joy and perfect peace.  In Jesus Name.  Amen.

The Lord has brought me this far on a journey, He brought me to a place of entering His rest.  A place of resting in His presence, drinking from the wells of living water and eating His bread of life (Hebrews 4:11, John 4:14, John 6:35).  So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall. Hebrews 4:11 NLT.

We are living in times and seasons when everyone is constantly on the go, busy with work, family, business and other affairs of life.  The ups and downs of life begins to wear you down till you feel tired, weary and your physical body cant cope anymore.  You have so many schedules, official appointments on your calender but no time  to spend with the Lord and rest in His presence.  You have been  burnt out completely, spiritually discharged and depressed or stressed, your physical as well as your spiritual well being is being compromised.

I perceived a great need to write about taking time out with the Lord and being at a place of rest, I mean spiritual rest.  Gary Ellis calls it chillaxing with Jesus. My emphasis would be mainly on finding rest, complete peace and soundness of mind in the Lord.  God worked for six days and rested on the seventh day not because He was tired or weary but had completed the work of creation.   He was well pleased and satisfied with the perfection of His work (Genesis 2:3).

Do not wait until your body cant cope with the pressures of life, consequently affects your physical health before you realize that you need to rest to recuperate from the hustles and bustles of life.  As much as the physical body needs rest so does your spirit being.   After a long day’s work, the body becomes weak, burdened and tired so when you get home, you relax, your long tired feet on the comfy sofa and probably watch your favorite channel or close your eyes in the hope of having a little nap.  During this process, your body gradually recuperates from the pressures of the long day’s work.

God’s promise of entering his rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience it. For only those  who believe can enter his rest. As for the others, God said, “In my anger I took an oath:‘They will never enter my place of rest,’” even though this rest has been ready since he made the world Hebrew 4:1,3 NLT

The Lord has promised you a place of rest, a heavenly eternal rest where you can come boldly by faith through Jesus Christ by His grace and mercies to find rest in Him.   The place of rest is the secret place of the Most High where you keep your eyes fixed on Him , trusting Him to see you through every challenging situation .  It is a place of settlement, restoration and soundness of mind where your spirit, body and soul is restored  as He leads you beside the still waters and in the path of righteousness.

He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.3He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name Psalm 23:2-3 NLT

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stably  fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand] Psalm 91:1 amp

Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.   11 I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! John 15:4, 11 NLT.

I pray that the Lord would renew your mind, restore your soul and bring  you to the place of rest in Him, resting in his  presence, Shekinah glory.  May you keep your eyes fixed on Him and remain in Him that your joy will overflow.  Lord Jesus give them the grace to keep standing and uproot every spirit of unbelief in your children because You are able to do all that you said you would do.  In Jesus Name Amen.

Close to God

I wrote this during my moments of spending time in His presence, seeking His face to know more of Him.  You can never get tired of seeking God , Jame 4:8 states draw near to Me (God) and He will draw near to you.   I pray you will be stirred up in your hearts to develop a closer relationship with God.  Releasing yourselves completely to Him and permitting Him to have full control of your life.  The more you spend time in His presence the more you want to know more of who He is, His love, grace and mercies.

From me to You Lord…………………………..

I want to see more of You
Let Your light shine in my heart
Speak to me sweet loving words
I pour my heart to You
In worship and honor of You
The closer I am to You
The more I want to know You
My intimacy with You stirs me up
My passion to serve You
And to fulfill Your purpose in my life

Let every moment of my life be with You
Seeking You always
Very early in the morning as I wake up
And late at night before I go to sleep
As your light shines out
Let Your light be a reflection of Your love

Your awesome mighty power reigns in majesty
Your goodness and mercies endures forever
How great are Your mighty acts
I humble myself before You Lord
Have Your way
Have Your way Lord

When I was a little child, I played hide and seek, I would go and hide somewhere where no one would find me.  My friends would search me everywhere to find me but all to no avail.  Sometimes they would ask my parents, uncles or siblings of my secret hiding place.  Because its a secret they would not tell them.  It was an exciting game, when they grew tired of searching they would tell me to come out .  I enjoyed playing hide and seek when I was growing.  The Lord desires, He longs for us to dwell in His secret place.  So where is the secret place of the Most High?

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty Psalms 91:1.

Where is the secret place?

The secret place is a place of intimacy with the Lord, where you feel safe and secured in His presence.  Its a place of finding rest in Him, place of settlement and refuge.  When you are in that secret place He becomes your strength, refuge and your trust is deeply established in Him.  It’s a place you find peace, joy and hope therefore you do not need to worry about anything because He is Lord.  You do not analyse till you paralyze because your trust is completely in the Lord.   There is no fear because perfect love casts out all fears.  Its a place where your enemies cant find you, they can search you forever they will never find you.

I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.” Psalms 91:2

How to get to the secret place?

Spending time in His presence, surrendering your life completely to Him.  Surrender is an act of sacrifice to God, all idols and lovers that has taken the place of Him is surrendered to God.  Letting go of all your burdens and submitting it at the foot of the cross.  Declaring that “I don’t want any other lover”.  Our God is  loving, merciful and so full of compassion and willing to forgive you all your sins.  Be ready to ask for forgiveness of sins and be at a place of repentance.  Because there is a need to be at a place of holiness and purity which is only through Christ Jesus for He is holy.  It is at the place of seeking Him in spirit and truth, at a place of worship.

God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24

What are the benefits of dwelling in the secret place?

Psalm 91 speaks in detail about the secret place of the Most High and some of the benefits of the secret place is

  • REFUGE AND FORTRESS : When you are weak, He strengthens you.  He is your hiding place and you can always run to Him in times of need and trouble (Psalms 91:2
  • DELIVERER: He delivers you from every plans of the enemy and every sickness and diseases (Psalms 91:3)
  • PROTECTION: He covers you like a mother hen would cover her chicks.  He protects you like a father would protect his children and He has given you the shield of faith to stop the fiery darts of the enemy.  He has positioned  His angels to keep charge over you.  (Psalm 91:4,10, 11,12)
  • NOT AFRAID: You are not afraid of the darkness, even in the midst of darkness His light shines to show you the way. He has given you authority to trample upon serpents and scorpions and nothing by any means shall harm you (Psalms 91:5-7, 13, Luke 10:19 )
  • HE HEARS OUR CRY: When you call on Him in times of trouble or need, He will answer you because you have a relationship with Him.  He will never let you down, neither will He leave you nor forsake you.  (Psalms 91: 15)
  • DIVINE SATISFACTION: You will have a divine satisfaction that could only have come from Him. He will satisfy your spirit, body and soul till you want no more.  You shall lack nothing because His abundant overflowing blessings is upon your life and He has a covenant with you that can never be broken (Psalms 91:16)

Prayer is an art of communion with the Lord or a two way communication to God. You speak to Him and in return hear from Him, from you to the Lord and the Lord to you.  My journey as a believer has been a rough bumpy ride, along the way I have learnt to communicate with the Lord wit the help of the Holy Spirit.  In the past, challenges tried to overwhelm me and it  became  tough to pray because my eyes were fixed on the situation.  Now I  have learnt to fix my eyes on the Lord, click here for post on My eyes are fixed on You.   It surely has been a learning process during this period.  What has kept me pressing on is understanding the key importance of prayer and its effects when we pray the right way.  Below are the highlighted the key importance of prayer to me :

DEEPER LEVEL OF INTIMACY: Prayer has developed my relationship with the Lord to a deeper level of intimacy.  In His presence is the vulnerability of a child’s heart.  Opening my heart, releasing every emotional pains, brokenness, bitterness, unforgiveness, laying them at the cross then cleansing and purifying my heart through the blood of Jesus helps me to have direct access through Christ my mediator.  If you search for the Lord wholeheartedly He will find you and meet you at your point of need,  Jeremiah 29:13 NLT.  This requires complete surrender and release to Lord Jesus Christ all your burdens so He deals with it not you but the Lord takes charge.
INCREASED TRUST IN THE LORD: The more you seek Him the more you know more of who He is.  As you know more of Him, your trust in the Lord increases thereby increasing your level of faith, click here for How to build your faith in God.   It is essential to develop a time of seeking Him behind closed doors to receive words of love, encouragement and direction.  Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come Jeremiah 33:3 NLT.

ASSURANCE THAT HE HAS ANSWERED YOUR PRAYERS: The word of God says ask and you shall receive seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall open, Matthew 7:7. Because He is our Heavenly Father He knows whats best for us and He will not give us a stone for bread.  When you pray with a pure right heart He will surely answer you.  And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him 1 John 5:14 NLT.

PLACE OF SECURITY: When you abide in His presence you arrive at a place of rest and security, where your heart and mind is at rest because you are under the shadow of His wings and in the secret place of the Most High, Psalm 91:1 amp.  Prayer helps you to arrive at that place of security.  Never stop praying 1 Thessalonians 5:17 NLT, it is as simple as that never stop praying, praying always in the spirit, thanking Him for what He has done, praising Him and meditating on His words.  Keep persevering, do not give up, keep on praying.  In His presence is where you will find peace and joy, in a time of intimacy with the Lord.

Comment on what has kept you persevering during the stormy dry seasons and what is the importance of prayers to you?
